We often get asked where is the best place to camp on Portland for climbers? The short answer is there are no campsites on the island itself (with the exception of the small camping area at the Youth Hostel). The good news is there are plenty of campsites in the wider Weymouth and Purbeck area, and below are a selection that our climbers have visited in the past.
Sea Barn Campsite
Sea Barn Farm is in a uniquely beautiful location, with panoramic views of the Fleet Lagoon, Lyme Bay, Chesil Bank and Isle of Portland.
Tom's Field Campsite
Tom's Field Campsite has been established in the beautiful Isle of Purbeck for over 60 years. Tom's Field is open from mid March to end of October.
West Fleet Holiday Farm
Family friendly site with bar, swimming pool and breathtaking views.
East Fleet Farm
Award winning camping in a unique location on the shores of the Fleet Lagoon, overlooking Chesil Beach and the Sea.
Pebble Bank Holiday Park
Pebble Bank Caravan Park is situated less than two miles from Weymouth town centre, and its Blue Flag Award beach.
The campsite is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, making it quiet and secluded, and safe for children. There are extensive sea views from most parts of the site, and guests have the use of the of the private beach, which forms part of the farm. Open in August only.
Osmington Mills Corner Campsite
Set in several acres of the Dorset countryside with scenic views of the Weymouth area, our campers return yearly to the peaceful surroundings.
Martleaves Farm Campsite
Martleaves Farm Campsite is located between Weymouth and Portland in Dorset on the stunning Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. We are a licensed site with 20 pitches for vans and 20 for tents.
White Horse Camp Site
White Horse campsite is situated under the White Horse, lovely flat fields and plenty of open space. 10 minutes drive from the beach and surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty.
